thankyougal An enormous, huge, giant, lovey-dovey THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me, cheered me on and encouraged me. It was one tough and a little bit of a nerve wracking competition. I can't believe I even got to be a tiny part of it!

I am so proud of everyone who entered the Global Talent Search, the amazing illustrators that made it to the 2nd round and the last 6 that have been picked. What a fun competition to be a part of. Wishing the final ones much luck - I will be rooting you on and can't wait to see where your career goes next!

The best part of all this was the little illustration family I have gained. So happy to have met so many wonderful people through GTS and MATS!

sweater_weather Wow, here it is! I really really wanted to incorporate knitting and sweaters somehow to my fall activity tote bag. When I think of fall, besides Apple Picking, I think of knitting, chunky sweaters, huge scarves and fun hats with huge pompoms. So, I decided to go with raking the leaves for the tote in a chunky knit sweater and a cute dog beside her. I pretty much made a bag that I would want to buy from a farmer's market!

If you get a chance, head over to check out the other amazing tote bags and vote for your favorite!

Sketches and Ideas for GTS Round 2 (Part 2)

After sketching rough ideas for my Fall Activity Tote Bag, I started to work on narrowing down my favorites. And apple picking just so happens to be one of my favorite fall activities. When we lived in New Orleans for a little stint, it was one of the hardest parts of not having 4 seasons. Did you know they don't even sell apple cider during the fall months down there! Here are a few of my ideas that didn't quite make the cut: applepicking1 applepicking2 applepicking3

Stay tuned for my final post! Did you read Part 1 of the GTS?

Sketches and Ideas for GTS Round 2 (Part 1)

ohmy Oh my Oh my Oh my! Oh my gosh! That was what was going through my head when I received the email saying I made it to round 2 in Lilla's Global Talent Search! I feel so lucky, excited, shocked, scared, and giddy that I was 1 of 50 chosen among 1500 entries. The only competition I have really won, was a hula hoop contest when I was 5. This is just so much more exciting!

We had two weeks to come up with the entry for the next assignment and it was to create a Fall Activity Themed tote bag. I probably drew about 100 different sketches, but I kept coming back to the idea of Sweater Weather. That is what fall is all about, isn't it? However, the tough part for me was trying to incorporate that into a fall activity. Here are a few pages from my sketchbook:

Up next, my ideas that didn't make the cut, but I still love.

Global Talent Search!

gtscover_deniseWell, I had about a 100 different ideas for this journal cover and this is what I ended up picking. The assignment for the Global Talent Search was "vintage playground". I wanted to have a cover that was different from everyone else's and pogo stick immediately came to mind! I'm keeping my fingers crossed to make it to the next round, however, I have been seeing a ton of really good pieces out there!

Here are some interior pages that I came up with for fun! insidepages
